Au Pair Program in New Zealand

  • Age: 18-30 years
  • Length of stay: 6-12 months
  • Working time: 25-40 hours a week. In addition 1-2 nights of babysitting per week.
  • Holidays: 2 weeks paid holiday in a 6 months stay. You have a free day each week.
  • Travel costs: You must pay for their own visa and travel expenses.
  • Insurance: Covered by the Au Pair
  • Pocket money: 150-200 NZ $ per week
  • Visa requirements: Working Holiday Visa

1. Application
Send the application to the agency and wait for their confirmation and more details from your agency. Once you have gathered all the documents, the agency will send your profile to their partner in New Zealand and start the search for a Host Family.

2. Looking for a Host Family
The Au Pair agency in New Zealand will send your profile to possible Host Families.

3. Placement
If the Host Family is interested, the agency will send you their application so you can plan a video call. If you reach an agreement, then congratulations!

4-. Visa
Check all the requirements and apply for the Working Holiday visa.

5. Travel to New Zealand
Get ready to book your flight to a wonderful country! The agency will give you the contact information from their partner in New Zealand in case you need to contact them in the future.

Au Pair Play and Learn

El programa Play and Learn está dirigido a todas las au pairs que trabajan en Auckland, Waikato o Wellington y que cuidan a niños en edad preescolar (0-5 años). En el primer mes, una visita semanal a un “coordinador de educación” le dará consejos sobre nutrición, problemas de salud o actividades apropiadas para la edad. Desde el segundo mes, la visita es mensual. El maestro no es solo un punto de contacto para el cuidado de niños, sino que también le habla sobre sus problemas para establecerse o sobre la nostalgia.

Au Pair Play and Learn se caracteriza por los siguientes componentes:

  • El “coordinador de educación” lo ayuda a crear un informe, también llamado “diario de aprendizaje”, de historias y fotos que muestran los intereses de los niños, sus actividades y desarrollos. Esto está en línea para usted, los padres y el coordinador disponible.
  • Nuestros socios se encargan de organizar grupos de juego para todas las au pairs y los niños. Aquí hay juguetes, una casa de juegos y se ofrecen diversas actividades. Además, hay excursiones mensuales a museos, parques o paseos.
  • Se ofrecen talleres de capacitación periódicos sobre diversos temas. La participación está certificada.

Au Pair Buddy

El programa Au Pair Buddy está dirigido a familias con niños en edad escolar, así como a aquellos que viven fuera de Auckland, Waikato o Wellington. Los amigos Au pair ayudan a los padres con sus tareas de cuidado de niños y tareas domésticas, formando así un par de manos adicionales. La atención se centra en actividades de ocio y cuidado de niños durante el horario escolar.

Se organizan excursiones como patinaje sobre hielo, exhibiciones de películas o una reunión en el parque, donde las au pairs pueden participar con “sus” niños. Los amigos Au pair no solo tienen la oportunidad de participar en eventos sociales organizados por nuestros socios, sino que también reciben cuidados intensivos durante toda su estadía (aunque sin el “coordinador de educación”).

You can be an Au Pair in New Zealand if you are between 18-30 years and your country has a Working Holiday agreement. If you have a passport from any of the following countries you can apply for the visa:

Europe: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom.

Asia: China, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam.

America: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, United States.

The visa application can be made online. You need to pay the application fee and in some cases, you need to provide some extra documents. According to the official regulations, you also need to show at least NZ $4,200 in an account. The money is needed in case you cannot find a job during your time in New Zealand. The visa is processed within 25 days.

Insurance:

Keep in mind that you need to get a private insurance to be safe during your stay in New Zealand and also to get the visa.

Agencies also offer Workshops in which you will learn more about the daily life of an Au Pair, your responsibilities, get tips on how to deal with homesickness and adapt to the Host Country’s lifestyle.  You can also share your concerns and doubts with your advisors!
