Become an Au-Pair

If you want to become an Au-Pair, you have two options: you can either find a family on your own or you can hire a full-service agency. Matching platforms, like AuPair.com, enable you to get in touch with potential Host Families.  On the other hand, a full-service agency will guide you through the whole process. In case you decide to cooperate with an agency, please make sure that you get in touch with a reliable agency. We recommend you to choose one of our certified agencies in your home country.

FAQs

What are references for childcare?

If you have made an internship in the social area, just as in a kindergarten or other school you can use this as a reference. Especially if you have worked as a babysitter or tutor for kids you will have a great reference that host parents like. Have you been a caregiver at a camp for children? This is a reference too.

Who can fill out a childcare reference?

The childcare reference has to be filled out by the organisation you’ve worked for or the parents of the kids you babysitted. This document will let host families know about your duties and how you handled situations.

What’s a character reference and who can fill it out?

A character reference says something about your personality. Please note that it can’t be a family member or a friend that fills out the reference. It should rather be filled out by a teacher or employer.

How do I write a letter to the Host Family?

Your letter to the host family should have 1 to 2 pages. You introduce yourself and describe your experience in childcare. You also tell the family about things you like to do and your hobbies, your current job and your plans for the future. It’s really important that you also tell them why you want to become an Au Pair abroad.
