Responsibilities & Commitments for Au Pairs and Hostfamilies

An Au Pair is not a housekeeper but a temporary family member. The main duties of an Au Pair include:

Typical Responsibilities of an Au Pair:
  • Childcare (playing, helping with homework, accompanying to school)
  • Light household chores (tidying up children’s rooms, preparing simple meals)
  • Assisting with children’s leisure activities
What a Host Family Should Provide:
  • Clear working hours and scheduled free time
  • Inclusion of the Au Pair in family life
  • Cultural exchange and support in language learning

Agency vs. Platform

Both host families and au pairs only need basic organization skills to plan the stay smoothly.

With or without an agency, families and au pairs must review profiles, conduct video calls, and check references or criminal records if needed.

Once you choose an au pair, discuss and sign the contract, covering key details like working hours, pocket money, insurance, and visa requirements.

If a visa is needed, the au pair must handle the application independently—agencies can’t do this for them. Plus, agencies aren’t responsible for ensuring a positive experience.

AuPair.com gives you control without unnecessary costs.
